Other things to see and do during your visit to Dalbeattie
Dalbeattie and the Colvend Coast is popular with visitors coming to south west Scotland for a relaxing holiday break. A haven for wildlife and with forests and stunning scenery including a rugged coastline featuring a number of outstanding sandy beaches such as nearby Sandyhills, it’s not hard to see why. Add to that a range of activities for the whole family to enjoy, the Dalbeattie area will deliver a truly memorable and enjoyable visit.
Bordering the picturesque granite town of Dalbeattie, the Town Wood and Dalbeattie Forest
features one of the world-renowned 7 Stanes Mountain Biking Trails
as well as the Golden Hedgehog trail and forest adventure area by the Town Wood Car Park. The Dalbeattie Heart Stone is also a popular feature here.
Within Dalbeattie, there are a number of independently-owned shops, cafes and restaurants as well as Colliston Park
with a boating pond, play equipment for all ages of children and a zip wire.
Also in the town itself, is Dalbeattie Museum
which is open to visitors from April to October.
Rounall Wood
adjacent to Dalbeattie Golf Course
is a native woodland featuring a wildlife quarry with picnic area.
Located 7 miles north east of Dalbeattie, Drumcoltran Tower, a fortified mid 16th century L plan tower house is open to visitors all year round.
6 miles south west of Dalbeattie near Palnackie is Orchardton Tower, Scotland’s only free-standing circular tower dating from the 1400s and also open to visitors all year round.
4 miles south of Dalbeattie is the picturesque coastal village of Kippford
with its yacht marina. A mile and half further on is another attractive village, Rockcliffe, which has a small sandy beach and a tea room. Sandyhills, 8 miles south of Dalbeattie on the Coast Road, features a large sandy beach, perfect for families visiting the area.
There are many other attractions throughout Dumfries and Galloway including the Red Kite Trail, Loch Ken Activity Centre, Dumfries Aviation Museum
and the Camera Obscura
in Dumfries.
